Crunchyroll Anime Awards: Megan Thee Stallion, Iman Vellani & More!
The 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards will include Megan Thee Stallion, Iman Vellani, and more superstar hosts - now, here are the nominees!
Crunchyroll has today revealed the nominees for the eighth annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards, the largest dedicated awards program honoring the craft and artistry of Japanese animation, including the creators, musicians, and performances across streaming and theatrical. Now on the Anime Awards website, fans can begin to cast their vote across all categories, with the full list of nominees available below.
Crunchyroll also revealed a star-studded lineup of presenters for both the Anime Awards live ceremony and the Anime Awards pre-show, which is back for a second year in Tokyo with an elevated format. During the pre-show, Crunchyroll hosts and global presenters will reveal a slate of fan-favorite awards. With more to be announced soon, the current list of Anime Awards live ceremony and pre-show presenters include:
Megan Thee Stallion – Three-time GRAMMY-winning recording artist, philanthropist and entrepreneur.
"Watching anime is one of my favorite things to do! I love cosplaying all of my favorite characters, I love the storytelling, and I love getting inspiration from the different anime art styles! I'm really excited for the opportunity to attend and present an award at this year's Crunchyroll Anime Awards. I'm looking forward to traveling to Tokyo and joining my fellow anime lovers as we celebrate and honor the best anime creators and shows in the world," said Megan Thee Stallion.
Iman Vellani – Award-winning actress (MS. MARVEL and THE MARVELS)
"I think what's so charming about anime, as a new fan, is the endless stream of choices—you're forced to be adventurous and constantly discover fresh narratives through genre, art, and characters. It's why I am beyond thrilled to celebrate this year's standouts at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards and, of course, add them all to my ever-growing watchlist!"
LiSA – Japanese singer- songwriter who has performed hit anime theme songs.
"Beyond time and borders, anime allows us to connect and be touched, be excited, and share the same emotions with others, regardless of age or values. Anime has the same potential and appeals that I feel towards music. I hope the wonderful Japanese anime continues to bring joy to many fans around the world," said Japanese singer-songwriter LiSA. "I consider anime to be one of the cultures that represents Japan, so I am very honored to be chosen as the presenter."
Roland – Japanese night club host, entrepreneur, and TV personality.
"I had been working in the nightlife entertainment business in Japan, and after along period of unsuccessful business, I became an owner of several companies. During the journey to the point where I am now, whenever I hit a wall or felt lonely, anime was the one thing that helped me through it all. As a presenter at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards from the world's largest anime streaming service, I would be happy to be able to deliver anime works that could help someone who is struggling like I was one day."
Aquaria – American fashion model, drag entertainer, and international DJ who was crowned the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 10. A passionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, and a long-time anime enthusiast.
"I couldn't be more excited to be participating in the Crunchyroll Anime Awards Pre-Show! When creating looks for my own drag persona, I'm so often inspired by the powerful women and other eccentrically styled characters from my favorite series. As a child, I remember relating to and seeing myself in these queer coded characters.
There are so many instances from my favorite shows where the protagonists and villains would defy gender through their disguises and actions, and as an adult, it's exciting to make this connection between childhood interests and my current profession."
Che Lingo – British rapper and artist who regularly mixes genres within his music.
"I am excited to be a part of the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. Anime is a medium that impacted me from visual to audio. It's grown into a culture that's impacted with stories and worlds that can inspire so much and has over decades. It means a lot that my work in anime and with Crunchyroll is recognized and appreciated enough to have me in another position to give back again. Anime showed me that freedom exists in places you never thought possible, and demonstrated the tenacity in friendship, albeit fictionally, but the writing would frequently hit home and that sat with me as I grew."
Lena Lemon – Content creator focused on anime, cosplay and gaming.
"Having grown up immersed in the world of anime, witnessing the growth and evolution of the anime community has been truly remarkable. From those early days as a little girl watching Chibi Maruko-Chan and Anpanman, to where I find myself today – being able to turn my genuine passion into a livelihood through creating content for you guys – has been an incredible journey. As one of your co-hosts for the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards Pre-Show, I am thrilled to celebrate with you all the outstanding anime released this past year!"
Yaeji – Artist, producer, vocalist and DJ, whose introspective, dance floor-ready tracks have made her a global icon.
"Anime saved me in my loneliest moments of childhood. It inspired me when the realities of western society dulled my imagination. It kept me company through every transition of my life. I'm beyond thrilled to take part at the Anime Awards as anime quite frankly touched every part of my life! I grew up across the US, Korea, and Japan so my relationship with anime is multifaceted in a way. I've watched the same show dubbed in different languages
and then subbed. I've seen shows get censored in various ways. I've revisited the same shows decades later to understand them in a different light. I think because anime has been a constant in my life, (but I've changed so much as a person) it's been a measure to understand myself better. As an adult watching shows now, I've also realized that so many of these shows have messages and themes that are inspirational, revolutionary, and queer. They used to get a bad rep when I was growing up (it was a reason to get bullied / my family wasn't thrilled with me watching anime instead of doing homework), and it's sometimes puzzling to see the popularity of anime as a genre now, but overall it makes me happy that more people are sharing the same passion for this art as I do"
Ylona Garcia – Singer born in the Philippines, raised in Australia.
"Anime has been part of my life since I was born. My family and I love to watch Studio Ghibli movies, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. When I was going through a very dark point in my life, watching anime not only helped me feel better but made me want to get better. It taught me so many lessons and gave me so many perspectives. Anime is one of the many things I'm grateful for because it quite literally saved my life. One of my favorite quotes from my favorite anime of all time is 'I don't quit, I don't run, I never go back on my word. That's my ninja way.' – Naruto. If it wasn't for words like this constantly repeating in my head, I wouldn't be
here today. And that's why I'm forever grateful to celebrate anime with everyone at the Anime Awards!"
Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman and CEO of Sony Group Corporation, will return again to deliver opening remarks at the Anime Awards live ceremony, which will be hosted by voice actress Sally Amaki and entertainer Jon Kabira.
"With more than 30 anime studios, 5 streaming platforms, 50 series and films, and over 50 voice actors, the nominees for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards represent the world-class creatives powering the global love of anime," said Rahul Purini, President, Crunchyroll. "We're proud to present this year's nominees and look forward to the show where we, with our incredible slate of global presenters, will celebrate anime's ability to captivate fans around the world."
In celebration of this year's Anime Awards nominees, a selection of nominated series streaming on Crunchyroll will be available on AVOD starting today. Fans interested in exploring the honorees have until March 2 to stream the titles for free, with ads. Anime Awards nominated series will be available for AVOD viewing worldwide, pending regional availability.
Anime Awards voting is open now through January 27 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time and fans are encouraged to vote every day, now even easier with one-click revoting, to cheer their favorites into the top spot. The results will be announced at the 2024 Anime Awards live ceremony on Saturday, March 2 and through a global fan livestream. Sony Music Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc., will support Crunchyroll in the execution of the Anime Awards.
