'Good Omens': Amanda Palmer Weaves a Tale of Neil Gaiman, a Bow-Tie and a Premiere Saved

It's the end of the world as we know it… but from the looks of Amazon Prime Video's Good Omens, it doesn't plan on going quietly. In fact, it's safe to say that the road to "The End Times" is gonna' be a right messy one. Based on Neil Gaiman's (American Gods) and the late Terry Pratchett's (Colour of Magic) novel and written by showrunner Gaiman, the six-part adaptation introduces us to angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant) as they try to find the Anti-Christ… and figure out the logic behind ending the world.

'Good Omens': Amanda Palmer Weaves a Tale of Neil Gaiman, a Bow-Tie and a Premiere Saved

Now, the fine folks here at Bleeding Cool are pretty proud of the coverage we've given Good Omens – from inital casting news to coverage of the London premiere and NYC screening and our official series review (spoiler: we're big fans) – but this one might be our favorite [Ed. Note: It is.]. What follows is a wonderful Twitter tale from the amazing Amanda Palmer (who we're hoping has a much bigger role next season if SYFY's Happy! gets renewed – you can see why here) – a tale of Gaiman… a bowtie… true heroism… and a happy ending for all:

"we were late to the london premiere of good omens because @neilhimself does not know how to tie a bow-tie. nor would he attend the premiere without a bow-tie. we were at a standstill. i didn't know how to tie a bow-tie. neil's agent didn't know how to tie a bow-tie."

"neil's assistant didn't know how to tie a bow-tie. nobody working at the hotel knew how to tie a bow-tie. neil's publicist did not know how to tie a bow-tie even after frantically googling a youtube instructional video. the hotel concierge, seeing neil's desperation, began…"

"…asking passersby. none of them knew how to tie a bow-tie. neil became legitimately panicked. it was funny at first. then he simply melted down. nobody could make jokes about how we were very late and how nobody could tie a bow-tie. we were now a half-hour late."

"eventually the guy from the barber shop next-door came to the rescue. this is daniel, the guy from the barbershop next to the hotel who knew how to tie a bow-tie. he is the reason neil attended the premiere of good omens tonight. thank you, daniel. neil. clip-on. or plan."

The End of the World is coming, which means a fussy Angel and a loose-living Demon who've become overly fond of life on Earth are forced to form an unlikely alliance to stop Armageddon. But they have lost the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy unaware he's meant to bring upon the end of days, forcing them to embark on an adventure to find him and save the world before it's too late.

With Armageddon just days away, the armies of Heaven and Hell are amassing and The Four Horsemen are ready to ride. Aziraphale, an angel, and Crowley, a demon, agree to join forces to find the missing Anti-Christ and to stop the war that will end everything. Based on the best-selling novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Good Omens follows an unlikely duo and their quest to save the world.

"One of the interesting things about the coupling [Aziraphale and Crowley] is how they rub off on each other, they've been on for Earth so long and them to The Beatles, nobody else knows what they've been through, but each other – just like The Beatles!"

– Michael Sheen (on Aziraphale's relationship with Crowley)

Directed and executive produced by Douglas Mackinnon (Sherlock, Doctor Who), the cast of Good Omens  includes: Tennant, Sheen, Jon Hamm, Miranda Richardson, Nick Offerman, Adria Arjona, Nina Sosanya, Jack Whitehall, Michael McKean, Ned Dennehy, Ariyon Bakare, Mireille Enos, Anna Maxwell Martin, Lourdes Faberes, Yusuf Gatewood, Sir Derek Jacobi, and David Morrissey. Also, Frances McDormand, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Brian Cox are also on board in some pretty lofty roles: as the voices of God, Satan, and Death, respectively.

Good Omens is co-produced by BBC Studios with Narrativia (Rhianna Pratchett's production company) and the Blank Corporation in association with BBC Worldwide for Amazon Studios and the BBC. Gaiman, Mackinnon, Caroline SkinnerChris Sussman, Simon Winstone, and Rob Wilkins as executive producers.

"It seemed to me that there was an opportunity for [Archangel Gabriel] to portray this guy as the boss that everyone has, but everyone hates – who is constantly smiling and telling you 'great job,' while also subconsciously saying 'you're terrible'."

– Jon Hamm (on portraying Gabriel)

Launching on Amazon Prime Video in over 200 countries and territories on May 31, Good Omens also airs later this year on the U.K.'s BBC Two.
