Into the Badlands Season 3: Blind Cannibal Assassins [Spoilers]

We're facing down some 'Blind Cannibal Assassins' in this week's Into the Badlands.

Hellloooooo Gaius Chau (Lewis Tan, who can also be seen later this week in Deadpool 2). Gaius has been locked in a cell for 18 months after helping free some of the slaves his sister, Baron Chau (Eleanor Matsuura), owns. Baron Chau wants to send him to take care of her pesky border problem with Pilgrim (Babou Ceesay). I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love that the women are pulling the strings of power this season.

Sunny (Daniel Wu) and Bajie (Nick Frost) are on the road again, on the way to somewhere called Vulture's Peak. On the road they encounter a blind man camped out, and he seems able to see and sense a lot more than he should. The man proceeds to put something in Bajie's food… kids, this is why we don't trust strangers.

Nathaniel Moon (Sherman Augustus) arrives at the camp Sunny and Bajie had just left, and he continues to tail them.

Awaking from their drugged slumber, Sunny and Bajie discover that their awful host has kidnapped baby Henry.

I sense a little (half romantic, half not) teenage triangle of problems forming between M.K. (Aramis Knight), Tilda (Ally Ioannides), and Odessa (Maddison Jazani). Tilda and Odessa have really grown on me. Tilda tries to convince M.K. that violence isn't always the answer to everything. M.K, however, can't be swayed from his mission of revenge and heads out to find and presumably kill Sunny.

At The Widow's (Emily Beecham) poppy fields, it rains pieces of paper that have maps drawn on them and instructions to find Pilgrim.

Baron Chau preps Gaius on what he's going to face, and he does not seem stoked.

Sunny and Bajie follow the trail to a dark, dank bunker. This is the clip we exclusively premiered last week, and every time I see it, it still creeps me out. They're surrounded by a pack of blind potentially cannibal assassins.

Meanwhile, The Widow doesn't seem too happy about the Pilgrim propaganda and how it caused 100 workers to walk away. Lydia (Orla Brady), who seems to have taken no time at all to settle back into her old lifestyle, seems to know a tiny bit about Pilgrim. The Widow and Lydia decide to try diplomacy — well, not so much try diplomacy, but at least not outright attack without knowing their enemy.

In the woods, M.K (who is also bleeding constantly from his torso wound) crosses Gaius Chau's forces.

Sunny and Bajie confirm that yes, their captors are cannibals. Is baby a delicacy? We get some ominous Sunny flashbacks. There's few things as unsettling than the creepy Jarl (Michael Gould) and Allisito (Alexandra Moen) of the blind cannibal assassins holding and cuddling baby Henry. They claim to not want to deprive baby Henry of a father, and so offer Sunny the choice: join them or be eaten. Oh, and they'd have to sacrifice their eyeballs. I'm normally not one to judge lifestyle choices, but to poke out your own eyes seems somewhat extreme.

Turns out Sunny is partially responsible for the blind cannibals. They were originally a group of renegade clippers who had kidnapped Quinn's son and ransomed him. Their punishment isn't death, but blindness. Oh, and don't you worry — because this is Into the Badlands, we of course see the act. Waldo, Sunny's clipper trainer, forces Sunny to participate first hand in blinding them. Karma's a real bitch.

Over at casa Pilgrim, Cressida (Lorraine Toussaint) is digging through… owl poop? Seems like an unique pastime. Nix (Ella-Rae Smith) is worried about Castor (Dean Charles-Chapman) and his worsening condition. Cressida does not give AF. She gives Nix some sort of Ghostbusters-esque tracker to find a new dark one who has emerged. Do we think it's M.K or Henry she's referring to?

Moon arrives at the waypoint/blind roofie trap that Sunny and Bajie did. This totally seems like it will end well.

Nix sets out as The Widow and Lydia arrive at Pilgrim and Cressida's stronghold. Gaius Chau is also nearby. It's a party that no one wanted an invite to. Chau and his team launch their assault as Pilgrim and The Widow, and Lydia and Cressida meet in pairs. The Widow actually saves Pilgrim from an incoming knife missile. After the fight ensues, Pilgrim accuses The Widow of the assault being an elaborate ruse to gain his friendship. Lydia diffuses the situation, and a detente is temporarily reached.

Allisito tells a far different story of her blinding than the one Sunny spins. He then foolishly admits this to her. They're interrupted by Nathaniel Moon's arrival in bonds.

Nix finds and saves M.K.

A temporary alliance forms between Moon, Sunny, and Bajie in order to escape the blind cannibal assassins. Sunny escapes first and is faced with having to free Moon or refuse. When asked what will happen when he frees him, Moon answers they'd fight like honorable men until one of them dies… Not the most brilliant way to convince someone to free you. Sunny and Bajie take off and face down the remaining forces. I loved the group choreography of this fight.

After recovering Henry, Sunny offers to take Allisito with them, but she decides to take her own life instead. Finally he decides to free Moon. His logic is truly questionable. Moon challenges Sunny, who refuses to fight. Moon too decides to end the cycle of blood in that moment. This was beyond anticlimactic.

After all that build-up for the showdown between Moon and Sunny, 'Blind Cannibal Assassins' ended on a rather disappointing note. This season has been a lot of power players maneuvering into place for a big showdown, but I feel like we need some major moves soon.
