"Legion" "Chapter 21": Get Ready for More Weird (PREVIEW)
If you didn't catch the first episode of this season of Legion, you might want to go back and catch up. Legion doesn't really care if you know what's going on– there is a story to tell, Noah Hawley knows exactly what that story is, and if you're not ready, that's on you.
We've been introduced to Switch (Lauren Tsai), a young mutant that can travel (within limits) through time. She lives in her father's house, but she never really sees her dad. He's obsessed with robots, and only visits her during breakfast through close-circuit television.
Switch is incredibly vibrant in a very drab world, and her inclusion into Legion feels like the comic books are starting to creep into the series. Switch even has a code name…
Switch follows a series of clues to David's hide-out, where she witnesses his death at the end of Syd's gun. She flips back through time through a door she opens, and tries to get things right with David and his group.
Time is not a river. It is a Jungle.
The time travel elements with Switch in this season of Legion have been fantastically unique and fun, and handles time travel in a way that I have never seen before. She travels to a hallway of sorts, with doors spaced down the way with different increments of time labeled on them.
David seems to be looking for a time traveler to help him, but he seems completely surprised when she turns up. By the end of the episode, though, he seems to have accepted her.
And right when you think you'll see another loop through the attack on David's compound of worshipers by Syd and her Forces of Division, the perspective flips straight over to the opposing force as they are preparing their attack.
Legion is back and firing on all cylinders, and really rewards multiple viewings. Here's a clip from the next episode of Legion, "Chapter 21":
