Nathan Fillion's New Series, The Rookie, Adds Afton Williamson
The new Nathan Fillion-led series The Rookie has added Afton Williamson (The Night Of, Banshee) as a series regular. The straight-to-series crime dramedy features Fillion as a 40-year-old rookie cop with Williamson playing Talia Bishop, his newly promoted training officer.
Reports say that the series is still looking for to fill the role of Lucy Benitez, a 20-something Latina rookie who is intelligent, confident, tough, and compassionate. She will be Fillion's love interest. Eric Winter (Rosewood, Secret & Lies) is playing an overbearing training officer named Tim Bradford.
Castle alum Alexi Hawley will be serving as the series showrunner.
Besides her recurring roles on HBO's The Night Of and Cinemax's Banshee, Williamson has also appeared on The Good Wife, Homeland, A Gifted Man, Royal Pains, Blue Bloods, Nashville, Ironside, The Following, Elementary, Blindspot, The Blacklist and Bull. So the odds are you have seen her on something over the last eight years.
Fillion returns to ABC where he has had success with Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, One Life to Live, Desperate Housewives, Castle, and has been guesting on Modern Family. His run on Castle ended abruptly after seven seasons. The series was renewed for an eighth, then star Stana Katic was let go and the show suddenly ended.
