Netflix Renews '13 Reasons Why' for a Third Season
Netflix has released a new teaser trailer to announced an upcoming third series for its popular teen drama 13 Reasons Why. The third season is set to film later this year with creator and showrunner Brian Yorkey set to return. But the series original star, Katherine Langford, will not be back, having announced previously that she would leave the series after two seasons of playing Hannah.
The announcement comes one month after the debut of the series second season on May 18th. The show is one of the streaming services most popular, pulling in six million viewers in the first three days according to Nielsen ratings. Even though the series is performing extremely well, there was some question about whether Netflix would order another season due to the show focusing on topics like teen suicide, bullying, drunk driving, and rape. The series has been criticized by some mental health experts, citing the possibility that it could pose health risks for certain young people, especially those with suicidal thoughts. In response, Netflix has placed an advisory warning before each episode and runs a PSA prior to the first episode of each season.
Along with the departing Langford, the series also stars Dylan Minnette, Alisha Boe, Miles Heizer, and Derek Luke.
