The Punisher Season 2: Billy "Jigsaw" Russo Revealed in Date Announcement Video
We thought everyone was on the same page when it came to the basic premise behind Netflix's ("yes it's still on the streaming service") Marvel's The Punisher. Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) isn't the one who dies. Frank Castle is the one who does the killing. Pretty straight-forward, right?
Except no one bothered to tell Billy "Jigsaw" Russo (Ben Barnes) – though from what we can see in the following date announcement for the series' confirmed second-season return on January 18th, we're not sure he would've gotten the memo anyway:
Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as "The Punisher." Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer.
MARVEL'S THE PUNISHER Season 2 also features Ben Barnes (Billy Russo), Amber Rose Revah (Dinah Madani), Jason R. Moore (Curtis), Josh Stewart (John Pilgrim), and Floriana Lima (Dr. Krista Dumont).
Clearly, we're looking at two individuals who are on a major collision course with one another – how much collateral damage occurs remains to be seen. Clearly, Russo surived his season-ending showdown with Castle – but the extent of the damage done to his face is surpassed only by the damage done to his mind ("It's like a bomb went off inside my mind, scattering all the pieces." / "It's something on the edges — someone, like a dark shadow waiting for me.")
Doesn't look like things are going much better for Castle: after an earlier teaser showed him setting fire to his federal pardon, Castle clears up any confusion there might be among viewers that this season was going more of a This Is Us route (though you'd think the outfit and the weapons alone would be enough of a giveaway: "You need to let me be what I'm meant to be. I'm not the one who dies; I'm the one who does the killing."
Interestingly enough, confirmation of The Punisher's second-season January 18th premiere date comes days after the news was leaked through Netflix's Middle East & North Africa Twitter account shortly after the start of the new year. The series was included in a list of shows premiering internationally during the month of January 2019.
