Wipeout Return Means The Big Balls Are Now TBS Bound

What was ABC's loss has become TBS's gain, with the cable giant ordering a 20-episode season of Wipeout. Debuting in the summer of 2008 and running for seven seasons, the series runs its contestants through a series of wildly creative and hilariously twisted obstacle courses with some very interesting themes. Wipeout would go global, growing its international fanbase through a number of adaptations in more than 30 global regions such as Argentina, Australia, and the UK; as well as a number of spin-offs and specials. For series creator, showrunner, and executive producer Matt Kunitz, the show and the networks are a perfect match: "In my many years of producing, 'Wipeout' remains my all-time favorite. I am thrilled that it is returning more competitive than ever while continuing to provide hilarious wipeouts. 'Wipeout' is a rare show loved by both kids and adults, a true co-viewing experience. With a strong focus on comedy, there is no better network for 'Wipeout's 'return than TBS."

TBS's edition of Wipeout will feature new format twists and elements that will push contestants' athleticism and willpower to even greater extremes, all while delivering some pretty epic fails for viewers. Each game has been designed into three rounds and now also features a three-stage obstacle course consisting of multiple strategies and decision points designed to further challenge (and wear out) the stamina of the competitors. Oh, and in case anyone was wondering? The Big Red Balls are back, baby! Back with a vengeance. Endemol Shine North America will produce with Sharon Levy, DJ Nurre, Shyam Balsé, and Kevin Wehrenberg serving as executive producers. Kunitz will serve as executive producer and showrunner. Brett Weitz, General Manager, TNT, TBS & truTV, sees the all-ages appeal of the franchise as something that's very much needed right now: "Now more than ever is the time to gather family and tune-in to a fiercely wild and undeniably engaging viewing experience that mixes athletic action with hilarious antics. We are honored to partner with Endemol Shine to present a reimagined take on this universally beloved franchise that keeps audiences of all ages glued to the screen."
