Sunday Runaround – I Am Your Dalek Megazord
FreeWatch: Anecdotal reports are coming in of Free Comic Book Day being a real success in participating stores this year, a real jump up from last year. Whether it's an increase in the profile of comics with new movies, Twilight manga and a relaxation of cultural snobbery I don't know. But a lot of stores saw a lot of new faces. It even became a trending phrase on Twitter. Now the trick is to keep them. And there's more local press to help out – the Times Herald Record cover a Dan Parent signing session, the Edmonton Journal looks at local particpating shops. Retailer Matt Price blogged the event, saying;
11:30 a.m. Already more people in the door than 2008 – and there's a lot more day to go! On pace to pass 2009 at this rate, as well.
CriticWatch: Tim O'Neil falls out of love with Garth Ennis.
I'm not going to sit here and say Garth Ennis hates women, or that he's a misogynist, or that his work should be picketed – I just knew, as soon as i read that comic, I didn't want to read any more.
X-OverWatch: Tool's Andy Jones gets profiled on co-writer X-Files/30 Days Of Night with Steve Niles.
StoreWatch: Mark Millar runs a World's Greatest Comic Store competition in the edition of Wizard he'll be guest-editing.
TwitterWatch: A few Free Comic Book Day tweets to savour;
geoffsebesta I got three comics for FCBD and I already gave them all away.
JHickman God. I'm exahusted. I sketched (mediocre-ly) for, like, 5 hours. No one asked for Spider-man until there was around and hour left…My favorite was drawing was a Thor. And I did a pretty good Hawkgirl. Sue Storm was most requested female. Most requested male: Chris Gage!
smilinstanlee Had a great time at Comic Odyssey in Pasadena earlier today. There was an enormous crowd to greet me. But the news wasn't all good—I thought the crowd was just there for me—till I learned it was Free Comicbook Day! No matter. I told myself they were all there for me!
evandorkin So, I pick a comic for Free Comic Book Day & I'm leaving when this jerk yells "Hey, FF #50 isn't free!". Oh. #IcanOutrunYourAverageRetailer!
chris_ryall Just hit local shops Comickaze and So. Cal. Comics. Great crowds at both, and both told me G.I. Joe 155-1/2 was among the first comic gone.
BrianReed Free Comic Book Day looked to be a crazy big success. A crowd the whole time. LOTS of kids. Signed more SIEGE: SPIDER-MAN than I can count
ThatKevinSmith Via @TheOtherMurray "In Oshawa, GREEN HORNET disappearing way faster than the Lady GaGa comic" Go get HORNET#1 FREE today! #FreeComicBookDay
Agent_M Bought some more comics at @MidtownComics, but they were out of most #FreeComicBookDay comics. Booooo.
Comics212 Free Comic Book Day is going very well! It is actually warm out now! We gave away thousands of comics, we're on to last year's stuff now.
GeoffJohns0 Just stopped by Blue Moon Comics in Novato, California!! A beautiful day for Free Comic Book Day up here!!! :)
marvwolfman For Free Comic Book Day I was signing at Collector's Paradise, a comic shop here in LA. As I entered I was given an incredible gift: a balloon animal of Nightwing, created by balloon artist, Ryan DelToro. Needless to say I was struck speechless. Thanks again, Ryan. Everyone, take a look and see if you don't agree.
