The Thrill Electric Thrills MCM
At MCM London Expo yesterday we saw a teaser trailer for Thrill Electric, the enhanced digital comic from Leah Moore and John Reppion, Emma Vieceli and Windflower Studios, coming out in October from Littleloud/Hat Trick/Channel 4 online (and naturally on Pad).
Told as a intense story about the women working at the telegraph at the end of the nineteenth century, its been compared to Mad Men in the way it handles period drama and, as Leah pointed out, it will be its own slash fiction. And full of social reality of the time combined with aspirations given new life by the technology.
"Manchester 1970. The world's first industrial metropolis. Thanks to the newly invented telegraph you can talk to the other side of the world in a matter of seconds, but within a mile of the city centre, the world's first industrial suburbs are ruled over by feral gangs of youths. It's also where Emily Bagley's about to start her very first job working for the Electric Telegraph Company…"
Panels are composed in three dimensional layers, giving a new element to the work, and transforming the way a comic looks on the page. It's easier to see than explain, I'll try and get that teaser for you, it's rather spectacular…
