Typing On The Dead – The Walking Dead #122

By Jared Cornelius

Welcome to what I hope will be a new Walking Dead recap and analysis.  Just so no one can say I didn't warn you, MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING!  Don't read any further…ok they're gone so let's recap.

The Walking Dead #122 By Robert Kirkman Charlie Adlard

COVER

We pick up in the wake of Negan's vicious assault on the Survivors camp.  Having just lost Denise, Holly's unfortunate release, Eugene's capture, and the loss of King Ezekiel's resolve in the last issue things are looking pretty grim.  As we return Negan is leaving Eugene to think over his generous offer to keep his manhood.  Dwight and Carson have been tasked with keeping watch.  While Carson is away Dwight and Eugene discuss why Negan doesn't already have a knife in his eye.  Eugene accuses Dwight of fence sitting, while Eugene shows more bravado then we've ever seen out of him.

EUGENE TOUGH GUY

While deep in discussion about killing Negan, Dwight's overheard by Carson, who is none to happy about living in fear of a face ironing.  Carson believes that others might feel the same way and we're left to wonder until next issue.

HEARD ITMeanwhile at the Hilltop, Maggie and Brianna are having a heart to heart about Maggie's new leadership of the community.  Maggie now finder herself in charge is now unsure about herself and confesses that she doesn't really know how to lead.  Brianna, reminding Maggie of the guts she had decking Gregory and leading a counter attack against the Saviors, reassures her that they believe in Rick Grimes and Maggie Greene.  Rick and Andrea have a brief moment of comfort together while Ezekiel confesses to Michonne that his resolve has returned and he hopes the moment of weakness doesn't affect their relationship, but it's only a practice run as Michonne is asleep.  Heath is alive but not well after losing Denise, and Rosita is confronted with having feelings for the captured Eugene.  In perhaps the biggest moment of the issue, we're given a glimpse into Jesus's life as he's visited by Alex.  The two share a very brief moment, but its powerful as Alex just wants to hear Paul's (Jesus) voice and the two get cozy.

JESUSNegan, on the other hand, has developed a new tactic for the coming fight, shifting his focus to biological warfare.  Using the dead to gunk up their weapons, Negan covers his beloved Lucille in zombie flesh and reminds everyone that the slightest injury from the dead will result in fever and turning.

NEGAN

Rick makes a friend of the local blacksmith Earl, and asks for what we'll call an Ash makeover.  Members of the Kingdom arrive to bolster the ranks, while Rick and company make attack plans as well as contingencies for the worst.

KINGDOM

But plans are meant to be broken as Negan's ready to go.

NEGANGOTIME

Start taking your bets on which main characters going to die in the next few months because All Out War is coming to an end.  I think it's safe to say Ricks' going to make it out alive as teasing a prosthetic for his stump would be moot otherwise.  King Ezekiel seems intent on impressing Michonne–that's bound to work out well for him.  Negan's germ warfare is most certainly going to lead to some sick folks on the hilltop.  Dwight and Carson are the biggest question marks for this issue, however, as loyalties are going to be tested.  All Out War has been an exciting story and I'm looking forward to where we're going after this; will Negan face the same fate as the Governor?  Will the Hilltop remain in one piece? Will anywhere be safe?  Let's hope not.
