Matt Fraction To Pitch An Adventure Time Comic To Boom! Studios With His Son – And On Turning Down X-Men #1 Three Times
In his panel at ECCC, Matt Fraction was asked whether or not he and his wife Kelly Sue DeConnick had thought about writing a comic book together. Fraction said that if they did it would more likely be a prose book, though they did have a TV show idea together at one point.
But there was another member of his family that Fraction wanted to talk about.
My son and I have a meeting on Sunday with some editors at Boom!, we're going to pitch them an Adventure Time story we've come up with.
I got the idea, he was drawing tone day, I was like, oh look it's Adventure Time time, we should talk, maybe see if we could it would be a fun project and maybe you could bring it to your class and stuff, would you like to work on telling a story with me?
He's now just understanding that this is like a job, you do this thing… He's understanding that grown-ups have jobs and this is Dad's. So I thought we'd sit down, he's this ferociously imaginative little kid… So the other day, were getting ready, Henry, we really need to figure out out Adventure Time story if we're going to pitch it at Emerald City, we've got to figure out what we're going to do.
"Okay I've got it. Finn discovers a secret so shocking that it changes everything for ever."
"Holy shit that sounds great, What's the secret?"
He went "Mmm mm." And walked off.
So that's our pitch. We'll see how it goes on Sunday. Who wouldn't want to read that in a book?
He also talked about managing his workload and his creative process…
"I have turned down in my career, I think, three different X-Men #1. Which financially speaking is what they called real stupid. But for whatever reason its didn't working with what else I was doing it didn't feel right didn't fit, money wise that was dumb. But creatively that was the right call."
But right now he's getting ready to talk to Boom! And I'm sure that they will make the right call, creatively as well… and see just how soon they can announce it.
