So Who Owns The Human Fly Anyway?

There are two Human Fly characters in the Marvel Universe.

Human_Fly_1
The first based on real life stuntman Rick Rojatt, who appeared in costume in photographs with the Marvel staff.

The comic didn't identify him, but showed him as a young man injured during a car crash whose skeleton was replaced by steel and became a daredevil stuntman performer for charity, fighting crime and corruption along the way.

Amazing_Spider-Man_Annual_10The other Human Fly was a Spider-Man villain, a small-time criminal who got fly genetic powers after a being part of a superhero project by J Jonah Jameson and Dr. Harlan Stillwell. He was eventually killed by The Scourge, then revived by Hood using the power of Dormammu. Of late he joined the Sinister Sixteen in The Sinister Foes Of Spider-Man.

But now he is returning… or is he? In the upcoming Illuminati series, another supervillain book led by The Hood, the Human Fly is there – but he seems to be wearing the costume of the stuntman Human Fly.

We only ask because there's a movie based on that Human Fly in development.

Alan Brewer and Steven Goldmann picked up the reverted rights on the property recently. Eisenberg-Fisher Productions, which is based on the Paramount lot, will executive produce the proposed indie, with financing said to be coming from private-equity sources. Goldmann is poised to direct. Brewer, along with James Reach, will produce. Tony Babinski, Cirque Du Soleil's in-house historian, wrote the Montreal-based screenplay. Goldmann is repped by Michael Lewis & Associates and Anarchy Management. Brewer and Babinski are repped by WME.

One for the lawyers?
