Dan Wickline posted to the Bleeding Cool Slack:

I met him at a BBQ at Steve Niles house. They used to get together with their wives and play scrabble every week. I sat in the back yard on a bench talking to Bernie for hours at the bbq, about the industry, his art… anything and everything. And when I went to leave, he hugged me. He was that friendly and open every time I saw him before he moved to Texas. He was exactly how you wanted him to be. He was a comic legend that makes you believe the industry is great.
