"He's Actually Dead. As Far As I'm Concerned He's Really Dead" – Nick Spencer On *That* Secret Empire #1 Death

You may have read Secret Empire #1 by Nick Spencer and Steve McNiven.

If not, you may have read about a certain death that happens within.

Nick Spencer tells IGN, "He's actually dead. As far as I'm concerned, he's really dead…  I think that it was a tough decision. I really like Rick as a character, I've had a lot of fun writing him. He's been big part of my run and I didn't know that I was going to do that when the run started… It was heartbreaking to do that to Rick….. death isn't always permanent in the Marvel Universe, but I will say it's a lot more permanent for the non-super powered characters a lot of the times. It's definitely, as far as I'm concerned, Rick's final hour. It's very sad."

Rick Jones was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in The Hulk #1 in 1964.

In his history he has teamed with the Hulk, become an Avenger, teamed with Captain Mar-Vell, Captain America, Rom The Space Knight, Genis-Vell, become the Grey Hulk, A-Bomb, cured of terminal cancer by the Beyonder, stopped the Kree-Skrull War, wrote an autobiography Sidekick, died during Infinity Gauntlet (and met dead rock stars), crippled by the Hulk and wheelchair bound, gained the Excelsior, stabbed in the chest, and became the hacker, The Whisperer.

So, you know, stuff.

And now no more…
