Carolina Panthers' Twitter Reveals Secret '90s Message Hidden In Tweets
Something that NFL teams never had to worry about until the last few years: social media. Now every team has a social media team, and you can often get the latest breaking news from their official Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/Twitch/etc. account before ESPN's experts even know about it. And to have a successful social media presence, it helps to have a good sense of humor — and it appears the Carolina Panthers do. (Also, shout out to the folks at Arby's…seriously, if you're not following Arby's, you are missing out on some great pop culture references.)
Yesterday, the Carolina Panthers' social media masters put out this simple tweet:
This then lead many fans to scramble, myself included, to scroll through all of the their tweets to see exactly what they were talking about. I'm not going to make you go through them to see what they posted — though it's so damn subtle that you might want to just see it for yourself instead — but here are the first words from their tweets over the three-day span. Reading from newest to oldest:
"This is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down and I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air."
Yup, that's the opening for the 1990s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The worked backwards and mixed in the words in quotes form players, birthday wishes, image of players listening to music, and posting highlights. They even used the bell emoji for Bel-Air. Very clever work and a nice way to get people to go back and read three days' worth of posts.
Oh…and here's the Fresh Prince opening, in case you want a blast from the past.
