D23: Hugh Jackman Rumored As Scar in Disney's 'The Lion King'
Though not officially confirmed at the film's D23 panel earlier today, rumors are growing that actor Hugh Jackman (Logan) has joined the cast of Disney's "live" adaptation of The Lion King as iconic villain Scar. Scheming brother of King Mufasa and uncle to cub prince Simba, Scar was first made famous by actor Jeremy Irons (Reversal of Fortune) in the 1994 Disney animated classic.
Website Omega Underground sighted "someone with knowledge from the production" that Jackman had signed-on for the production, with Jackman himself possibly adding fuel to the speculation through his Twitter account on Friday, the first day of D23:
The Lion King is scheduled for a July 2019 release, with director Jon Favreau giving those in attendance at D23 a "first-look" preview of the famous "Circle of Life" from the film.
While Jackman's involvement has yet to be officially confirmed by either Disney of the actors representatives, we do know that Jackman would be joining some good company. James Earl Jones will be reprising his role as Mufasa; with Donald Glover (Atlanta) as the voice of young prince Simba. Billy Eichner (Difficult People) and Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express)are starring as troublesome duo Timon and Pumbaa; and HBO late-night host John Oliver was recently announced as the voice of Zazu, the king's majordomo.
