Elite Comics Will Have The Marvel Legacy Lenticular Covers – But Not For Cover Price. "This Is The Game".

In a response to an earlier article on Bleeding Cool about certain retailers deciding together not to stock the Marvel Legacy lenticular covers, retailer William Binderup of Elite Comics in Kansas is taking the opposite stance. He writes,

Not me. This is the game. You are either in the game or not. These lenticular covers are really, really cool and people are going to want them. Yes, Marvel is putting me through the worst part of the SATs to do the order and make the math work, so what? You know who understands that to be here for FCBD and Batman Day and Childrens Mercy Toy Drive and Planet Comicon and guest appearances and limited editions and cake and fund raisers and so on and so forth I have to make money, my customers. And to make the math work the lenticulars might not be cover price. They get it.

Owning a comic shop is not an order the same of amount of books each month, put them on the shelf, repeat for 40 years business, we are competing with everything in the world. Netflix drops a new series every couple of weeks.The new Star Trek will be on a pay to play channel. Nestle puts out limited edition candy bars, nacho cheese Pringles have a Podcast! So comics, and Elite Comics, do some cool, interesting, weird, fun stuff to keep people's attention. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. That is the game.

Sure there is some risk, some guesses and gambles, in the end, I go to work every day with my dogs, sell really fun cool stuff to people I like and make a living doing it. Not a lot to complain about, or boycott about, really.

In short, yes, Elite will have the Marvel lenticular covers. No, they will not be cover price and no, you cannot buy 20 copies Wednesday morning.
