hbo renewed barry silicon valley

Less than a month after one's series premiere and the other's season premiere, HBO has announced that they are renewing the Bill Hader comedy series Barry for a second season; and Mike Judge's Emmy-winning Silicon Valley for a sixth season. Both series premiered their respective eight-episode seasons on the cable network on March 25.

"While Barry has delighted audiences with its deft interplay of comedy and drama, Silicon Valley remains as brilliantly and frighteningly prescient as ever. We're thrilled that these two smart, funny shows are returning for another season."

– Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice-President, HBO Programming

Here's a look at the first season of Barry and the fifth season of Silicon Valley:

BARRY is a dark comedy starring Bill Hader in the title role of a depressed, low-rent hitman from the Midwest who falls in love with acting while on a job in LA. Barry's handler, Fuches (Stephen Root), hires him out to the violent Chechen mob in Los Angeles, led by Goran Pazar (Glenn Fleshler) and his right-hand man, Noho Hank (Anthony Carrigan).

Barry's target: an aspiring actor who is having an affair with Pazar's wife. Barry follows his "mark" into an acting class taught by beloved teacher/guru Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), and is instantly drawn to the group of students, particularly Sally (Sarah Goldberg). Although he wants to start a new life in this community of eager hopefuls, Barry's criminal past won't let him walk away. Can he find a way to balance the two worlds?

SILICON VALLEY takes a comic look at the modern-day epicenter of the high-tech gold rush, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success. A collaboration between Mike Judge and Alec Berg, SILICON VALLEY's season five cast includes Thomas Middleditch, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Amanda Crew, Matt Ross, Suzanne Cryer and Jimmy O. Yang.

Mike Judge, Alec Berg, Clay Tarver, Michael Rotenberg, Tom Lassally, Jamie Babbit, Jim Kleverweis executive produce; created by Mike Judge & John Altschuler & Dave Krinsky.
