Will Marvel Make Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch Mutants Again in 2019?

The world rejoiced in 2018 when Marvel, in the wake of a deal for parent company Disney to purchase Fox, finally stopped purposely downplaying the importance of the X-Men and allowed the Fantastic Four to have a series again. But what about some of the other victims of Marvel's feud with Fox over movie rights? Of course, we're talking about Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.

These characters have been the victims of quite a few awful retcons over the years, the less said about some of them the better…

But things came to a head in 2015, ahead of the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron in theaters, which featured Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and thus required them to not be mutants, and thus their movie rights to not belong exclusively to Fox. From Uncanny Avengers #4:

But with Fox movie rights no longer an issue, might these two beloved character finally come back under the X-umbrella, where they belong? Take a look at the final page of last week's Uncanny X-Men #8, in which power-mad Marvel X-Editor Jordan White reveals the New Years Resolutions of various X-Men characters….

That's right, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch are included on the list, even though they're crossed out. It shows that someone at Marvel, shockingly, is actually paying attention to continuity. And the simple fact that they're included could hint at something more. Perhaps just one more retcon?

We'll have to wait and see, but 2019 could be an exciting time for fans of these two characters. Or, Magneto could have sex with a cow. It could go either way, really.
