Are You Ready for a Revival of X-Men: The Animated Series?

It's not the greatest cartoon of all time — that honor belongs solely to GI Joe: Real American Hero, and we'll fight to the death anyone who disagrees. But the 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series was one of the best, and certainly its adaptation of the Dark Phoenix Saga beats both of the times the X-Men movies tried to do it. The series also played a big role in making new X-Men fans during the 1990s, and remains the formative X-Men experience for many of them.

Well, there's some potential good news on the horizon. According to the latest Heat Vision newsletter at THR, the creators of X-Men: The Animated Series are looking to bring the show back! There's been no shortage of revivals of classic television series in recent years: The X-Files, Roseanne, Twin Peaks, to name a few. But this could be the biggest and best of them all!

According to the report, the cast of the series will be reuniting at Los Angeles Comic Con later this year, the first time many of them have appeared together on stage since the classic cartoon ended. But that's just the start of the good news! According to THR, the creative team of the series plans to pitch a continuation of the classic show to Disney, which THR speculates could be a brand new season aping the old school animated style.

"The one thing we'd like to do more than anything else to continue where we left off," said artist Larry Houston, according to the report.

If this pans out, it will mean the first new episodes of X-Men: The Animated series since 1997, more than twenty years ago. Not only that, but it will be the first X-Men cartoon since Wolverine and the X-Men fell victim to Jeph Loeb's terrible philosophy on Marvel animated shows and Ike Perlmutter's personal war against Fox for owning X-Men movie rights, an issue that's no longer of concern now that Disney has purchased the movie studio's intellectual property.

So, what do you think? Would you like to see the series return? Just kidding, we know you do. But leave a comment anyway.
