Adam Hughes Reaches The Limits Of His Ability With Betty & Veronica #3

The remaking of Archie Comics in recent years has told all sorts of Archie stories in all sorts of styles that would have been unthinkable less than a decade ago, including inspiring the current successful TV show Riverdale.

Which leads us to Betty & Veronica from Adam Hughes. A story that could have been squeezed into 8 pages in the old style has been stretched out into a non-linear three issue series, given plenty of further twists, character context, and artistic muscle flexing along the way. As Pop's Diner is threatened by coffee shop Kweekwegs – taking a leaf from a book that Adam Hughes is a fan of, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, whose parallel for Starbucks was Queequeg's, both fictional characters in Moby Dick, and used as a fictional coffee shop chain in the Deus Ex games.
