Batman and Spider-Man's Product Placement For Comic Stores Today…
Comic book stores aren't having the best time right now. Already 2018 sales are down on 2017 which was down on 2016.
So as Detective Comics #976 takes steps that will lead to the dystopian Future Batman stories seen in previous issues, an isolated Gotham run by Batman, Batwoman leading a Colony that will deal with the rest of the world, and psychoanalysis used by Batman as a weapon, at least there's time for a little product placement for comic stores.
And Batman may not be alone in this today. From Spectacular Spider-Man #301…
That's set in the past of course. In the present day, he's totally there…
Okay that's a little clunkier. But the Midtown Comics guys should totally turn the Batman one into a poster. I mean Five Guys already do it…
Maybe it's just DC Comics feeling guilty for leaving New York? A fair few of them have been donating to JHU's fundraiser… check that anonymous $1000 donation, that's someone with a Warner Bros expense account.
Okay, okay, we all had a little fun. But plenty of comic stores have actually turned up in the comic books over the decades. Maybe it's something more publishers could actually do, rather than rely on me deliberately misunderstanding a comic book panel out of context for comic effect? After all Golden Apples have to be healthier than Five Guys burgers.
