American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #5 by Dustin Nguyen

It all comes down to this final issue, and it's going to be a bloody one. While the last cover focused primarily on the greys and reds, this one is focusing on the glacier blues and reds. Lots of gruesome splatter effects all over the place here, and judging by the glowing eyes of Agent Hobbes, he's finally under a certain Lord-of-Nightmare's influence. Nguyen definitely killed it with every one of these covers, for his art style in particular brought this genre to life. Consistently disturbing, just how I like 'em!

Batwoman #13 by J.H. Williams III

Is anyone else's skin crawling after looking at this cover? Gives me the willies, through and through. As you can see from the cut-off DC logo in the upper left-hand corner there, I once again shopped the annoying banner out, but alas, DC wants to make my life difficult by having a sliver remain. Anyway, centipedes are enough to make anyone squeamish, even the bravest of the brave like Wonder Woman and Batwoman. However, in the wrong hands, this cover could easily be the beginnings of The Super Human Centipede, and no one wants that. Nature tells us black and red are dangerous colors, and it appears that nothing but danger lurks within these pages. The cherry on top for me is the red from Batwoman's cape coloring the centipede's head and fangs. Beautiful cover, I expect nothing less from J.H. Williams III.

B.P.R.D. 1948 #1 by Dave Johnson

Apocalypse now. Err, then. Ladies and gents I present to you my favorite cover of the week, hands down. For the longest time I knew that 'little girl' was bad news, for she always gave me the creeps. Now with this cover, my suspicions have been confirmed! She seems to be a tremendous force to be reckoned with, and perhaps one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse in a sense. The nuclear explosion wrapped in Lovecraftian tentacles is chilling as it is terrifying, and the colors mixed with the black and white is a blend much to be desired. Johnson's covers always amaze me, but this one in particular bitch-slapped me with amazement, and left me begging for more.

Glory #29 by Ross Campbell

Ross Campbell can illustrate one hell of a sexy-yet-deadly cover and he knows it! All I know from the previous issue is that this is Glory's sister, and just by observing the blades, spikes and warrior woman haircut, something tells me she's not one to be tamed or take orders. The different shades of blue simply pop on her alabaster skin, and I love the textures on her tail, hair, and back. Also the flow and movement of this cover really help focus on that evil look in her eye, and that child-like smile helps keep you feeling nervous. While I don't think she'll be inducted into KISS anytime soon, this cover entices me to immediately read this comic and get her whole backstory. Surely it's happy one.

Hawkeye #3 by David Aja

I sometimes believe Aja is too skilled for his own good. The man definitely understands the use of space, and simplicity. Archers arching within arches is a wonderful way of looking at this cover, and bravo to Aja for keeping with the same purples and white motif. Sometimes less is more, and Aja is a master at keeping your eyes full with his aesthetically pleasing covers. Oh, and did I mention his wonderful style continues on the inside? This series is a home run for fans and cover art enthusiasts alike.
