Clover Press Bags Will Eisner's The Spirit License For 2020, With New Format

The other day I noticed that Dynamite had pulled all their Will Eisner's The Spirit comic books from digital service ComiXology. I meant to look into that and now events have caught up with me. Because in February 2020, Clover Press is to publish Will Eisner's The Spirit comics with a new format and look.

Clover plans to launch its new Graphic Novella format, intended as an upgrade to the traditional trade paperback, at what is believed to be a more inviting price point to attract both new readers and existing fans.

"The Spirit is one of the most influential comics to have ever been printed, by one of the most important creators in the comic industry, Will Eisner" says Clover Press President and IDW co-founder, Robbie Robbins. "We will be reprinting Spirit stories, that have been curated by our Publisher [and another IDW co-founder] Ted Adams. The Graphic Novella will present the stories in original black and white and full-colour. Coloring will be done by Eisner Award-winning and nominated colourists."

Clover Press plans to deliver new collections of The Spirit in this format featuring a mix of stories presented in the original black and white and some coloured by Laura Martin and Jeromy Cox. Each story will also feature an introduction from members of the comic industry, including Denis Kitchen, Paul Levitz, Dean Mullaney, Craig Yoe, Diana Schutz, Greg Goldstein, and more.
