Did Gotham Have A Zorro? Batman #90 Spoilers
In today's Batman #90, we get a story from Catwoman's point of view about how she – and the Penguin, Riddler and Joker, all met the Designer, back in the day, when everything was all very nineteen-sizties. The villain who has re-emerged today and may be Batman's biggest threat. But it turns out he had a threat of his own long before even that. A swordsman of Gotham.
Fighting on top of steam trains and zeppelins… which places the timeline quite some time ago. Is this Ra' Al Ghul? Is this ? Or further back? Could this be Zorro? Zorro has a rich history as far as Batman is concerned, a major inspiration for the masked crimefighter, it was a Zorro film that the young Bruce Wayne saw before his parents were killed. Bill Finger was inspired by The Mark Of Zorro, in the creation of Batman, including similarities in costumes, Batman having a Batcave as Zorro had his own cave, as well as unexpected secret identities. Is this a way of sneaking Zorro – or a Zorro stand-in – into DC Comics continuity? Part of the new timeline perhaps? If so, why has he not turned up before?
Because he was utterly defeated by The Designer. Okay, okay, maybe he's The Shadow then, another major Batman influence. Or some combination of the two…

Piranha Comics is a small south London comic store chain with a small south-east store in Kingston-Upon Thames's market centre, which runs Magic The Gathering nights on Fridays, and a larger south-west store in Bromley, which also runs Magic nights and has an extensive back issue collection and online store. If you are in the neighbourhood, check them out.
