Fanboy Rampage: Brett Breeding And Dan Jurgens

581979Brett Breeding worked as an inker with penciller Dan Jurgens on many books, especially Superman, including the famous Death Of Superman #75.

Though they haven't worked together for some time. And yesterday we got an inkling as to why.

Breeding writes on Facebook,

To all of my fans, I need to address an ongoing situation that many of you have contacted me about, specifically those of you who are interested in having me ink/finish a commission over Dan Jurgens pencils. Over the past couple of years I have received many requests, some repeatedly over time from the same individuals, both here on Facebook as well as through my art dealer Catskill Comics, to work over Dan's art.

I am flattered, and truly appreciative, at how many fans like the work that I did with Dan and would want to have a piece of art done by the both of us. In recent years I have refused to even consider doing any of these commissions, but the requests continue, often from the same people. Because of all of the ongoing inquiries for me to do this, and because of the persistence of several fans in particular, I have decided to address the matter here.

Please understand that I have no interest in working over Dan's work whatsoever. I have not worked with Dan since the late 90s, and have no desire to do so in the future. When our working relationship ended back then it was not pleasant. Dan's way of handling it was to tell me that "he would make sure I never worked on his pencils ever again" and I am more than happy to oblige him.

Please believe me when I say that this is not driven by ego, but by a true and deep lack of interest. I am fortunate enough to be very busy without having to do commissions regularly. If I am going to take time away from my regular work I want it to be for something I am interested in doing. If there is no interest for me creatively, it then becomes solely a financial consideration. Therefore, I have decided that if someone really must have me finish ink a Dan Jurgens commission, I am going to make it worth my time. My starting price to even consider inking ANYTHING over Dan starts at $2,000.00.

Dan Jurgens declined to comment…

Fanboy Rampage was a blog by Graeme McMillan dedicated to the funniest, most ludicrous and most inappropriate comic book back-and-forths online. McMillan has moved on now, becoming a proper journalist for the likes of The Hollywood Reporter and Wired but he gave permission to Bleeding Cool to revive his great creation. Feel free to suggest your own observed spots of online excess.
