Green Arrow #34 Goes Monthly With The Return Of Shado

In yesterday's DC Comics November 2017 solicits, one reader, Alter-Ego, caught a detail I had missed. That Green Arrow #34was the latest DC Comics twice-monthly comic to go monthly. It joins Cyborg and Aquaman in that regard. It's not like Action Comics which also has one solicitation in the new listings, as it had a November issue in last month's listings instead, making three.

Also, Green Arrow #34 has gone from $2.99 to $3.99, the standard price of a monthly title at DC Comics. But there more of a Rebirthiness in the air. As its editor teased,

Copied by its writer,

That would be the return of Shado. Look.

She is Shado.

Shado first appeared in Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters #1 created by Mike Grell. dDaughter of a Yakuza agent sent to America with a large cache of gold, prior to World War II, in order to establish Yakuza operations in America, then placed in an internment camp. Attacked by retired soldier years later for the money, he turned it over rather than see his family killed. He committed suicide and Shado was raised to kill the Americans who had dishonored her family. Her string of revenge murders brought her to Green Arrow's attention,a nd they began a complicated relationship. This included shooting him by accident and nursing him back to health. And, while delirious from pain and medications, having sex with him and conceiving a son. As both antagonist and love interest, she has been defined by not only raping Green Arrow but being the mother of his child.

But that was in the original continuity, the New 52 took all that away, making her a former lover of Green Arrow's father, and the mother of his half-sister, Emiko.

And now? What with DC Rebirth continuity bring to the equation?
