Finally… Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver's SHIELD #5 and #6 for May 2018

Once upon a time, eight years ago in fact, Marvel Comics published a SHIELD series by Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver . It was a little late, but four issues came out. But five did not. It was… delayed. As was issue six.

Its absence was oft commented on. Weaver said,

So then, Jonathan and I were off doing separate things. S.H.I.E.L.D. was officially on a hiatus. Then I had to have my gallbladder removed, which killed my productivity for about a month. Meanwhile Jonathan was keeping super busy. So busy that when I did finally wrap up my Uncanny X-Men issue there was still not a full script for S.H.I.E.L.D. #5. Jonathan had only found the time to write the outline for the issue, so we decided to do it in the "Marvel Method ."

In 2014, it was meant to have been finished. October 2014 has the entire series completed. Why it wasn't published until now? No one is saying.

But in May 2018, SHIELD #5 and #6 will finally be published as well as a brand-new one-shot SHIELD: The Resurrection collecting the first four issues.

Hickman told ComicBook.com, "Well, it's true, this doesn't have anything to do with the Lindbergh baby, but without a doubt the real crime of the century is how long we've been sitting on this amazing Dustin Weaver art. Someone should definitely go to jail. Which I'm cool with as long as it isn't me."

"S.H.I.E.L.D.'s long hiatus, like the feeling of unfinished business, has been a nagging presence in the back of my mind," continued Weaver. "Finally having it out in the world will be very gratifying. I'm proud of it and excited to finally share the last issues. Having it out will also be a relief. I think now my spirit can go into the light and I won't have to keep haunting Jonathan Hickman."
