How Many Characters Will Marvel Kill in September? House of X, Absolute Carnage, More…
Marvel is known for killing off so many characters on a regular basis, they would soon have no living characters left… that is, if they weren't constantly bringing dead characters back to life at the same rate. Last month at a Swedish comic book convention, Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski discussed the revolving door of death at Marvel, insisting that the House of Ideas would rely less on senseless character deaths to spike sales.
And yet…
Marvel's September solicitations tease deaths in at least three titles, maybe more. Starting with House of X #4 and #5 by Jonathan Hickman and Pepe Larraz, which notes, "Xavier's dream turns deadly for some of his students."

Xavier's dream turns deadly for some of his students as they fight back against the humans' plan to eliminate them. The Future of the X-Men begins here!

And then there's Absolute Carnage, a super-mega-crossover event, and thus inherently prone to shocking character deaths, as that's how a publisher lets you know an event is serious. And the solicit for Absolute Carnage #3 explains that "Venom and Spider-Man have to deal with the hard truth that not everybody will make it out of this conflict in one piece."

• After the harrowing events at the end of ABSOLUTE CARNAGE #2, Venom and Spider-Man have to deal with the hard truth that not everybody will make it out of this conflict in one piece… if they make it out at all, that is.
• As Carnage continues to amass strength and allies, Venom and Spider-Man realize that the only way to beat him is to do the same…

Finally, and most explicitly, there's Valkyrie: Jane Foster, and here it makes sense for death to be involved, as Jane is a Valkyrie, after all. And doing her Valkyrie duty, Jane will find: "When a longstanding Marvel character dies at the hands of Bullseye, Jane Foster must accept her new role and carry them to the world beyond."
VALKYRIE: JANE FOSTER #3

VALKYRIE TAKES A BELOVED FRIEND ON THE JOURNEY OF THEIR AFTERLIFE!
When a longstanding Marvel character dies at the hands of Bullseye, Jane Foster must accept her new role and carry them to the world beyond. But she is not the Valkyrie of the past — nor is Bullseye's victim any ordinary hero. Valhalla is only one hall of the dead. The multiversal afterlife awaits.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
And those are just the obvious ones we noticed when perusing the solicits. By no means are these the only deaths we could see at Marvel in September. Have a read through the full solicitations and let us know if you sense any more, true believers!
