Image Comics To Publish The Clay People: Colossus – Call The Lawyers?
The Clay People is an American rock band formed in 1989 based in Albany, New York with singer Daniel Neet as the only constant member throughout the band's history, writing lyrics and performing as a frontman persona, and has seen the band move from American cold wave to post-grunge rock, with revivals along the way. And now? Comic books.
Image Comics studio Top Cow Productions, Inc is to partner with EP1T0ME Studios, Inc. to co-produce and to publish The Clay People's Colossus as a comic book. Written by Top Cow Preisdent Matt Hawkins and drawn by Magdalena's Christian DiBari, The Clay People's Colossus tells a story of "a bi-racial teenager in middle America that, thanks to his grandfather's last wish, unleashes an otherworld of hurt onto his tormentors" and is inspired by The Clay People's song of the same name.
The first people to sign up at https://ep1t0.me/colossus for updates, will receive a digital copy of The Clay People's latest album and the next 500 will receive a digital copy of the single, Colossus.
EP1T0ME's President Richard Leibowitz is quoted as saying "The song means different things to different people; the more we heard it, the more we envisioned a story about an underdog with new-found, out-of-control power and the ramifications that using it would bring."
Matt Hawkins says "After Rich pitched Colossus, I listened to the song and the lyrics really spoke to me. My sons are bi-racial, so the story made me think; so much so that I offered to write it myself. Intolerance, drug addiction, poverty and boredom pave a perfect storm for a revenge tale of grisly proportions!"
Dan Neet said "I wrote the song during a dark time; I can't believe it's coming to life for all of our fans and others to see."
The Clay People's Colossus will be published by Image Comics on the 16th of March, 2022. As long as Marvel Comics lawyers don't kick off over this sort of thing…
