John Layman and Dan Boultwood Launch Chew Sequel – Chu – From Image Comics
Bleeding Cool teased that John Layman was about to announce a new chapter in the world of gourmet law enforcers Chew – or the Chewniverse. But that it wouldn't be a new Tony Chu story, Instead it's a new Saffron Chu story, Tony Chu's sister, and drawn by Bleeding Cool favourite Dan Boultwood – and the comic book has been named Chu.
Tony Chu is a cibopath, he can psychically understand the entire history of anything he eats, and works for law enforcement. Saffron Chu, however, is a crook and a cibopars, able to learn secrets from who she eats with. They are brother and sister, and they are on a collusion course. And Chu will be a new food-noir comic about cops, crooks, cooks, & clairvoyants. It's the flip side of Chew, a ood powered female criminal instead of a food powered male cop…
John Layman told the Hollywood Reporter,
The closest comparison I can readily think of to Chew and Chu is Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul — two series set in the same universe, with obvious connections, but widely different in pace, tone, even structure. Chu will be that to Chew, but not a prequel; a story that spins out of the early days of Chew and then runs concurrently, but unlike Saul, which gets closer to Breaking Bad with every episode and season, Chu will spin out of Chew and get progressively further away, hopefully forging its own identity as something completely new and different and distinct.
Chu #1 will be released June 17th from Image Comics. Here's a preview.
