Did Latveria Join the European Union – And Would Doctor Doom Back Lexit?
Back in 2014, She-Hulk Vol 3 #3 by Charles Soule and Javier Pulido revealed the unsurprising news that Eastern European nation Latveria, ruled over by Doctor Doom, was not part of the European Union, and had its own currency, the Latverian franc.
But in the recent Savage Avengers #9 last month, Gerry Duggan and Patrick Zircher had a different story to tell.
Apparently Doctor Doom spends Euros now. Why would he, when the Latverian franc is so strong? Did it crash after the unfortunate coup in the current Doctor Doom series? Was Doom forced to join the EU or take on another currency to prop up his country? Is this really the Doctor Doom we know and love? Well, in today's Doctor Doom #5, after being ousted, it looks like Latveria is definitely outside the EU… for now.
Maybe Doom stole all those Euros he was spending… Because if Latveria is in the European Union, can you really see Doom being happy about Britain leaving before he does?
Also Kang throws some delicious shade on Marvel 2099 in the process…

Doctor Doom #5 is out today from Marvel Comics… I bought mine from Piranha Comics in Kingston-Upon-Thames. Piranha Comics is a small south London comic store chain with a small south-east store in Kingston-Upon Thames's market centre, which runs Magic The Gathering nights on Fridays, and a larger south-west store in Bromley, which also runs Magic: The Gathering nights and has an extensive back issue collection and online store. If you are in the neighbourhood, check them out.
