Let's Make A Comic Book In 48 Hours, With Reddit
Sam Midwood writes,
THE PLAN
Beginning Friday July 18th at 7PM PST myself, penciler David Daza (Star Wars: TOR), and YOU will create a 22-page comic book, via Reddit, in under 48 hours.
Madness!
We'll start things out by developing our main character. Perhaps they're an over-the-hill masked vigilante; a pickup-artist from Pluto; a grannie with a dark past; or a motorcycle riding chicken hell-bent on revenge who says things like "go cluck yourself" and "more than one way to crack an egg" right before he goes and offs somebody. Who knows?!
From there, we'll work on our antagonist, side-characters, theme, and basic plot.
Once you, David, and I have got it all figured out, I will write… write like the wind! The minute I complete a page I'll post it online for you to read and David will begin to draw. Once David has completed a page he'll post it online and… rinse, wash, you get the picture.
Along the way, we'll ask you for plot twists, monkey wrenches, a new character or two. We might even ask a couple of you to write or draw a page yourselves. We want you involved all the way. And, if that doesn't sound cool enough, Larry Wilson, co-writer of "Beetlejuice" and "The Adams Family" will be stopping by, taking the metaphorical baton, and writing the last few pages of the comic!
So that's it! That's the plan. Now, why are we doing this?
THE REASON
We're launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund issue #1 of our necropunk comic book, "The Projectionist", and we thought let's do something big, stupid, and fun to promote this thing.
THE PROJECTIONIST
"The Projectionist" takes place in a world where ghosts exist and everyone knows it. A world where the The Dead are creeping into The Land of the Living and, little by little, eating it away. Buildings are decaying; subway tracks are rotting; the faint whiff of ether fills the air.
The story centers on private detective/astral projectionist Ethan Plane. While traveling outside of his body, Ethan is mistaken for a fugitive spirit and goes on the run from paranormal cops to prove his innocence or suffer an eternity in some hellish afterlife.
If pressed, I'd say it was "Ghostbusters" meets "The Fugitive".
THE CLOSING
So, whadaya say? Does this fun? Dumb? Worst frikin' idea ever!? Let us know what you think in the comments section and please join us on the /r/Comicbooks subreddit this Friday July 18th at 7PM PST.
Oh, and as an added incentive to Bleeding Cool readers, if we hit half of our $6700 goal over the weekend I will personally write a terrible rap song, which will include all of the Bleeding Cool contributor's names, make a video of it, and post it online for all to behold and mock at their leisure.
