Luminous Beings by David Arnold & Jose Pimienta

Luminous Beings is a new graphic novel by David Arnold and Jose Pimienta, a YA graphic novel about a group of teens who decide to film a documentary about humanity's recent brush with extinction (via undead squirrels), which leads them on a series of misadventures throughout the night.

David Arnold is the author of The Electric Kingdom, Mosquitoland, Kids of Appetite, and The Strange Fascinations of Noah Hypnotik. He posted on Instagram. "News is out! My first graphic novel, LUMINOUS BEINGS, is coming fall 2024. Someday, I'll tell the story of how (why?) I spent 6 months during early lockdown writing a screenplay about zombie squirrels (but not really *about* zombie squirrels, zombie squirrels are more the *setting,* y'know?), but for now… Huge thanks to @danapotter1 & everyone at @penguinteen, and also to @danlazaragent for his unwavering guidance in the early days of this thing. And guys, seriously, I cannot think of an illustrator I'd rather be working with than @thejoepi— if you haven't read their brilliant SUNCATCHER yet, you should rectify that pronto. Bring on the squizzies.

Jose Pimienta works on comics and storyboards for animation and film, and previous comics work includes the graphic novel Suncatcher and MG graphic novel Twin Cities, and the upcoming The Miraculous Vanishing of Lake Peigneur.

Dana Leydig at Viking has bought North American rights to Luminous Beings and it will be published in the autumn of 2024. David Arnold's agent Daniel Lazar at Writers House and Jose Pimienta's agent Elizabeth Bennett at the Transatlantic Agency negotiated the deal.
