Pat Shand And Roberta Ingranata's Vampire Emmy Is A Fresh Look At Supernatural Romance

Vampire_Emmy_CoverZora Gilbert and Cat Parra of Margins Publishing write,

With Pat Shand and Roberta Ingranata having recently ended their fan-favorite run on ROBYN HOOD, fans have been asking what their next project will be. Well, wait no longer: VAMPIRE EMMY AND THE GARBAGE GIRL (published by Margins Publishing) reunites the creative team, and will be on sale in just under a week!

Emmy—the titular vampire—is past all the brooding, Anne Rice stuff and just wants to kick back, watch Netflix, and eat some bloody cheese fries. Emmy is done with drama and romance and is happy to just settle back into the routine of eternity…at least until she sets eyes her block's new garbage collector. Annabelle is tall, strong, and has shoulders to die for. They meet over a garbage bag full of the aforementioned cheese fries, and the rest is history…or is it?

VampireEmmy_LetteredPreview_Page_2Getting delivery can be a little complicated when you're a vampire. It might not be the classiest, but is that really important when it's delicious?

Shand describes VAMPIRE EMMY as "modern and fun and snappy, none of the angst that has pulled down [the vampire sub-genre]," and the comic doesn't disappoint. Emmy's every move has a bit of humor to it, and the dialogue is sweet and to the point. Readers agree:

"Supernatural creatures, meddlesome raccoons, take-out blood delivery, and garbage day… Vampire Emmy needs to solve the eternal question: when your human crush lives in the light of day, how is a love-struck vampire supposed to woo? 'Vampire Emmy and the Garbage Girl' is a cute meet so charming that even the coldest undead heart will skip a beat."

– Rachel Dukes (Steven Universe, Frankie Comics)

"Vampire Emmy and the Garbage Girl is the love story every queer kid didn't know they needed."

– Dany Roth (Blastr, Angel)

"Vampire Emmy and the Garbage Girl is the perfect remedy for the modern comic–it's snappy, clever, fun, and feels fresh all the way through. We need more stories like this one, for so many reasons."

– Michael Moreci (Roche Limit, ReincarNATE, Suicide Squad)

"Vampire Emmy and the Garbage Girl combines the best possibilities of the medium in something fresh and exciting, full of rich character and iconoclastic storytelling. Thanks to the impeccable creative pairing of Pat Shand and Roberta Ingranata, we're getting a love story we've never been told before, but one we've always wanted."

– Ryan Ferrier (Curb Stomp, Kennel Block Blues, Sons of Anarchy)

Of course, VAMPIRE EMMY AND THE GARBAGE GIRL isn't just about the dialogue. Shand's writing is spectacular and super fun, and Roberta Ingranata's storytelling and stylistic flair really make the issue shine. Ingranata has given each character their own distinct style: Annabelle is down to earth and ready to work, while Emmy's style is something that only a couple centuries of immortality can produce. Ingranata brings life to every page of the comic, using black-and-white finishes to highlight the horror genre's dusky roots without losing an ounce of the issue's modern pop.

VAMPIRE EMMY came to life (un-life?) soon after Margins Publishing's debut publication, DATES! AN ANTHOLOGY OF QUEER HISTORICAL FICTION. Shand and Ingranata first worked with Margins on DATES, creating a story called "Anonymously Yours" for the crowdfunded anthology. While Shand and Ingranata were winding up work on ROBYN HOOD, Margins was in the final stages of Kickstarter fulfillment for DATES, and VAMPIRE EMMY was a perfect next step for both the press and the creative team. Pat Shand says, "Margins is the perfect home for Vampire Emmy because of their dedication to high quality comics and the way they approach storytelling: with nuance, care, and respect for every creator involved. They allowed me and Roberta to tell our story in the exact way we envisioned, while also helping make it the best it could be. I think that passion is clear in the comic."

VAMPIRE EMMY AND THE GARBAGE GIRL debuts on Friday, June 17th at HeroesCon in Charlotte, NC. Fans not going to the convention can preorder the comic right now at Margins' online store.
