1940s Superman Ring For $10,000 On eBay – Two Days To Go

1940s Superman Ring For $10,000 On eBay – Two Days To GoIt started with a $9.99 Minimum Bid. But this eBay auction for the first Superman Premium Ring from the 1940s has just topped $10,000 with days to go. The listing descibed the item as;

a silver metal ring with a brass Superman in the center, surrounded by the brass inscription "Supermen of America Member" on a red painted background. One side of the ring has two lightening bolts, and the other side has a planet.

This Ring is in very good condition. The red background paint has some loss between words; the brass Superman is all good except a small area around his head that has darkened; and the silver metal has worn off in two minor places (none is missing on the planet as the photo seems to show…that is only a reflection).

After a number of enquiries and shooting eBay bids, the seller did a little more research to report back.

I have been sent the following information (found in collectors publications): This was a Contest Prize Ring issued by DC Comics and promoted in the Superman and Action Comics. A total of 1600 rings were produced and then issued to "Supermen of America" club members. According to "experts," only 12 to 20 are known to exist, with only about 12 in "recognizable" condition.

Looks like this could be the twenty-first. And with Action Comics #1 topping a million dollars, who knows where this item may end up…
