Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 19th May 2014 – Superior Spider-Man Vs Sandman
This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.
Superior Spider-Man takes its traditional top place in the chart with Sandman very close behind, and the number one seller in a number of stores. It's certainly a success at DC, far more than the Before Watchmen debacle and seemingly worth the new financial deal DC had to arrange with Neil Gaiman for the entire Sandman series, to acheive. And with Walking Dead at number 3, the rest of the chart is dominated with Marvel titles, only broken by the Wake. Not all good news for Marvel though, Ghost Rider and Iron Patriot launches didn't chart, and neither did Bryan Hitch's Real Heroes.
That's right folks, Sandman and The Wake outsold all other DC comics this week, in this chart.
- Superior Spider-Man #30
- Sandman Overture #2
- Walking Dead #124
- Guardians Of The Galaxy #13
- Uncanny Avengers #18.NOW
- Avengers #27
- New Avengers #16.NOW
- Amazing X-Men #5
- Silver Surfer #1
- The Wake #7
Thanks to the following retailers,
- Eide's Entertainment of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Yesteryear Comics of San Diego, California
- Pittsburgh Comics of McMurray, Pennsylvania
- Jetpack Comics of Rochester, New Hampshire
- Rodman Comics of Ankeny, Iowa
- Comickase of San Diego, California
- Librairie Astro of Montreal, Que, Canada.
- The Fallout Shelter of Highland Park, New Jersey
And this is what they have to say…
Blew through Silver Surfer on Wednesday, but Ghost Rider and Iron Patriot didn't move at all.
G.I Joe was the clear winner. Not to be unexpected since i had the only store variant for this anniversary issue. Walking Dead is the only constant seller, the other titles just seem to go up and down from week to week like a roller coaster.
Amazing Spider-Man and X-Men back issues are moving briskly with the movies right around the corner. I expect it to increase in the next few weeks with people looking for the key issues for both movies and the characters featured.
Wow, what a week in comics! Massive week for Marvel. Silver Surfer & Ghost Rider both did great with their new #1 debuts. Iron Patriot? Not so much. Great seeing The Wake in the Top 5 this week. That's pretty huge, and that book just keeps picking up more readers with each issue. Deadly Class, Revenge, Manhattan Projects & The Bunker all sold fantastic this week for indies. Superior Spider-man had a lot of buzz around the shop and was definitely one of the most talked about books.
Saga vol.3 is a runaway train of sales. We ordered Walking Dead numbers on it and still nearly sold out and had to reorder. People can't get enough of this book!
Another massive amount of titles for the last week of March, just like last month. Superior Spider-man #30 was our top seller followed by Sandman Overture #2 which would have sold better had it not been so late. Marvel held 7 of the top eight spots, with DC taking the second and bottom two. Not much interest for All New Ghost Rider or Iron Patriot which both have sold barely 20% of what we have sold of Superior Spider-man #30.
Zzzzzzzzzz week. And April Previews looks like an utter waste of time as far as new projects are concerned.
Some two-headed Godzilla bank looks like about the best thing in the whole bloated (yet empty) catalogue.
Maybe one of these months Diamond will send more of those box cutters they "gifted" us some years back and we can just use them on our wrists- at least it'll be faster than this eternally increasingly soul-deadening monthly pile of paper.
That's not the electric light my friend, it's my vision growing dim
But no worries, it's just the Dress Rehearsal Rag…Huge week. Sandman didn't see to loose any steam for us, and people that we saw back in Oct for #1 came back for #2. Superior Spider-Man was the most talked about book, and Silver Surfer was the best received. Deadly class has also seemed to find a audience.
