Cinebook Announce First Spirou Title – And It's Not What Was Expected
Cinebook recently bought the English-speaking licence to the Spirou & Fantasio line of Franco-Belgian bound comics. Running since 1938, the title has had a number of writers and artists, instead of the singular visions more common in works such as Tintin and Asterix, but is a very similar and successful book, following the fantasy adventures of two journalists. However, until now, only one title has been translated into English, and that went out of print in 1996.
The first new translation is not one of the classic stories by creator Andre Franquin as expected by some, but volume 34, a more recent example from the acclaimed eighties run by Tome And Janry, Aventure en Australie translated as Adventure Down Under. This will be published in October 2009 in the UK and January next year in the US. More translations are expected.
