LawWatch: D.C. Chief Judge Eric Washington is seeing how graphic novels to teach students about civic responsibility in a new curriculum. He's visiting Dorothy I. Height Community Academy Public Charter School will teach seventh and eighth graders at the Community Academy Public Charter Schools using a three-part comic produced by the National Center for State Courts.

LibraryWatch: Kimberly Francisco is the comic book champion at the Huntsville Public Library, creating a new area for graphic novels with a grant from the Texas Book Festival. But they'd love charitable., tax declarable donations…

ProdigyWatch: The score to the graphic novel adaptation Tatsumi to be shown at Cannes this year, was written by Christopher Khoo, the thirteen year old son of the director, Eric Khoo.

Christopher also finds creative inspiration from other musicians. "I listen to alternative music and indie music," including the British folk bands Mumford & Sons and Noah and the Whale.

SlottWatch: "This is Geek Christmas. It's the best thing ever," pronounced Dan Slott, who writes "The Amazing Spider-Man" for Marvel. "It's a good way to bring in new readers, young readers, people who may have strayed from the path … and say, 'here is some free stuff.'"

IndiaWatch: Expanding the form, the medium, the audience.

While there has always been an audience, she says that artists are only now learning to effectively tell stories visually. "We have always been a visual culture. Graphic novels have evolved out of the children's illustration in books such as the Amar Chitra Katha series. The fascinating aspect of this trend is that the target audience is largely adult."

Gita Wolf of Tara Books, which used the graphic novel medium to popularise tribal art forms, says "We have a tacit bias towards the written word. It is a hierarchy of communication that we are familiar with, and accept as a matter of common sense. This is a pity, because an image has its own language and grammar."

Box office report: 'Thor' hammers out a $66 mil opening | Inside Movies | EW.com

The superhero film Thor smashed its competition this weekend with a $66 million debut, according to studio estimates. Among other Marvel-based movies, Thor opened better than The Incredible Hulk ($55.4 million) but fell short of X-Men Origins: Wolverine ($85.1 million) and Iron Man ($98.6 million).
