MTV Geek Closes

image

MTV Geek, the blog set up by MTV.com to cover comics and comics-related stuff has closed.

MTV Geek has been very prominent, exhibiting and holding parties at comic conventions and launching their own comic book line. And Valerie D'Orazio was a key hire as EIC, bringing all sorts of comics industry integrity and reliability with her.

When it was set up, it was seen as an internal land grab by MTV.com against MTV news' Splashpage blog, which was then restrained over what it could cover, such as no comic book that wasn't being turned into a film. Strangely, Splashpage seems to have gone from strength to strength. Might they have room for a few MTV Geekers?

MTV Geek isn't the only blog being closed, Multiplayer seems to be going away too.

A few months ago I was told by MTV executives that they were thinking of buying the then-closed Comics Alliance blog from AOL. In retrospect, it's a very good thing that didn't happen…
