Neil Gaiman's American Gods Sequel Gets #twitterworship
In a short interview with the Washington Post's Comic Riffs, Neil Gaiman talked about his sequel to American Gods, descibed as the "'bubbly new glittery gods' of a technology and media culture trying to supplant the aging Powers That Be Threatened."
"There definitely going to be some Twitter in American Gods 2…Not Twitter per se, but [social networking] like it."
The first novel showed how modern gods based on city living and technological progress were supplanting the gods of old, in a very literal fashion, and they were fighting back. Of course, when first published in 2001, Twitter hadn't been invented and social networking was in its infancy.
American Gods has been chosen for the One Book One Twitter reading club and Gaiman has 1.6 million followers as @neilhimself. Although as Neil tells the Washington Post, his wife Amanda Palmer, doesn't like it…
Still it is being made as an HBO TV series, and a tenth anniversary edition has just been released with 20,000 extra words, and Hugo and Nebula awards to its name. So it definitely has its disciples. Start tweeting it now…
