Does Gary Frank's Rorschach Mugshot From Doomsday Clock Reveal The Man Behind The Mask?

To celebrate the first issue of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank's Doomsday Clock heading out to the printers, Frank shared a mugshot of Rorschach on Twitter — without the mask, of course. And it looks a lot like Walter Kovacs, who was Rorschach in the original Watchmen comic book series.

There's just one problem, though. Didn't Kovacs die at the end of Watchmen?

That was a rhetorical question. He did. So when Rorschach's return was revealed at the Doomsday Clock panel at New York Comic Con earlier this year, it immediately sparked speculation over who might be under the mask if not a dead man.

Bleeding Cool even ran an article on the odds of who it might be. Did Frank's mugshot spoil this highly clickable mystery before the first issue was even printed?

Well, another possibility, probably the most likely one, is that the mugshot is a red herring — not relevant to what's actually in the book, and just a callback to Dave Gibbons's Rorshach mugshot from Watchmen #6. After all, if it were a new photo, would Kovacs have the same number and the exact same bruises if he were arrested a second time?

It looks like we're no closer to the truth than when we started. Hopefully, we'll find out sometime after Doomsday Clock #1 hits stores on November 22nd.

Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
