So, Gyro Gearloose Turned Donald Duck Into Wolverine…
The Patch reference in What If Donald Duck Was Wolverine surprised me more than in... a certain movie out recently.

Today sees the publication of what may be Marvel Comics' maddest comic book since Obnoxio The Clown. What If… Donald Duck Was Wolverine? From the Marvel Italia team (who really know their Disney) of Luca Barbieri and Giada Perissinotto. And they certainly know their Marvel as well. Which is how we not only begin with Mickey Mouse as the comic book Hawkeye recruiting Wolverine from the farm… and somehow making those ears work with the mask…
We also get Wolverine Donald Duck teamed up with the Goofy Hulk. WHo just happens to be in the grey Hulk form. And why?
Bevasue it pulls from the time when the Grey Hulk was a bouncer in a Las Vegas nightclub, before running an organised crime ring. And when Wolverine was Patch, working in the casinos of Madripoor around the same time, both wearing white suits, and drawing a line between both eighties continuities for this current mashup with Disney thirty-to-thirty-five years later.
Impressive whichever way you cut it. And also giving us a rather different version of the Fastball special as well. Man, they just had Colossus and Wolverine in the same film and didn't do this… they didn't even talk when they were together, Wasted opportunity, not one that What If Donald Duck Was Wolverine is going to pass by.
But when it comes to origins, it turns out that in this world Gyro Gearloose was playing the role of Professor Cornelius when it comes to Donald Duck…
Just be glad that they didn't go the whole hog and have Peter Red Skull's lair covered with swastikas. Disney really doesn't like those… not anymore.
And no one actually gets chopped up either, or it could have been very messy…. for the characters, parents, and Disney as a whole. I don't think that's actually a decapitated Iron Man there…
