So How Did Jupiter's Legacy Get Those 150,000 Pre-Orders Anyway?

Jupiters_Legacy_3aYesterday, we reported Rob Liefeld's tweet that Jupiter's Legacy, the new comic from Mark Millar and Frank Quitely, has received over 150,000 preorders. Which may well put it at the top of the chart.

But how did it acheive such a high order, when the likes of equally high profile Saga, East Of West and and America's Got Powers failed to get anywhere close?

Could it be this little proviso on the order form?

Retailers whose orders of Jupiter's Legacy #1 (in any cover combination) match or exceed their orders for The Walking Dead #106 (in any cover combination) will qualify to have 100% of their Jupiter's Legacy #1 order made fully returnable.

So basically, no matter how many copies retailers order, as long as they order lots, they are completely returnable and they won't pay a thing if they do. So you might as well order a thousand just in case, and qualify for all those "rare" variant covers and the like?

Diamond used to take 20% off the reported order for books that were returnable, though in the light of the New 52's returnabile policy, this was reduced to 10%.

It will however make the book a very unlikely candidate for any speculators out there… shops may well be swimming in Jupiter's Legacy.

UPDATE: It has been pointed out to me that both Saga #1 and East Of West #1 were fully returnable, and EOW is already selling copies for $10, and Saga… well…
