Bleeding Cool gets the word there may be a speculatory rush about to hit A Vicious Circle, the comic book series by Lee Bermejo and Mattson Tomlin from Boom Studios that has been published sparingly over the last couple of years. Copies have suddenly been selling on eBay around the $10 to $15 mark, and there has been a bump in the upcoming FOC Final-Order-Cut-Off amongst comic book retailers for the long-awaited third and final volume on the 7th of August. Might some big media announcement be coming for San Diego Comic-Con next month?

The book is three volumes long; the first was published on the 14th of December 2022, the second on the 19th of July 2023, and the third volume is due to be published on the 7th of August 2024… which means it's going to FOC pretty sharpish. It's been a long time coming.

Lee Bermejo is best known for an intense painted style, and working with writer Brian Azzarello on titles including Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, the Joker graphic novel, Before Watchmen: Rorschach and Batman: Damned. He also created the series Suiciders from DC Comics.

Mattson Tomlin is a screenwriter for Project Power and Little Fish as well as The Batman in 2022 starring Robert Pattinson as well as its upcoming sequel. He also wrote the television pilot for an adaption of the comic book series Fear Agent, and a film adaption of the comic Memetic for Lionsgate. He has also written the live-action film adaptation of Keanu Reeves' Brzrkr and the comic book Batman: The Imposter with artist Andrea Sorrentino.

UPDATE: Oh that's why. Boom Studios has sold the movie rights to Lee Bermejo and Matt Timson's comic book A Vicious Circle to Universal Pictures. Ryan Coogler will be producing the film with Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler through their Proximity Media as well as Boom Studios. Mattson Tomlin is set to adapt the screenplay. Rebecca Cho will executive produce and oversee the project for Proximity Media along with Zetra Evans for Proximity.

Stephen Christy serves as producer for Boom, with Adam Yoelin as executive producer and Mette Norkjaer as co-producer. Senior Vice President of Production Development Ryan Jones will oversee the project for the studio.

Ryan Coogler has co-written and directed films such as Creed, Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
