Telegraph Art & Comics of Charlottesville, Virginia Hosts a Grand Opening – With Lots of Comics to Sell, Cheap and Fast

Comic book store Telegraph Art & Comics of Charlottesville, Virginia has moved from one location, home to a previous store, Atlas Comics, to a new bigger location, dubbed Telegraph Uptown. Their Grand Opening, earlier this month had comic creator Laura Lee Gulledge as a guest, who ran a comics creation class, and showing off her upcoming graphic novel, The Dark Matter of Mona Starr, being published next April by Abrams Books.

They also have a lot of comics to sell  – and fast. They posted to Facebook,

In June, when we took over Atlas Comics, we became the caretakers of a collection of some 80,000 comics, and now that we're buying collections almost every day, we've got even more. 💖💪

In an effort to give these comics a good home – some of which have been in the back issue bins for 20-30 years – we're creating the LAST CHANCE ZONE. 😮

Every week, I will pull a group of longboxes that we've taken just one quick look through to make sure there are no key issues, and put them out on the LAST CHANCE table. They will be sold 1 for a quarter, 5 for $1, and 50 for $8. They will be on the floor for one week (Saturday morning to Friday night) and then replaced with a new batch of boxes every week. The boxes that I take away will be sold in bulk to a dealer in another city and will leave our shop forever. I hate to be so merciless with comics, but even with 3,500 square feet we've gotta make room for all the new and vintage stuff we get in every week.

They won't just be fun indie stuff from the 80s and 90s – these are some cool-looking ones I took for myself that I wanna read – there will be piles of good superhero stuff and plenty of books worth a lot more than a quarter that we don't have room for. Happy Hunting!

You can pop by and look for yourself at Telegraph Uptown 29N – 398 Hillsdale Dr, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901.
