The CBLDF Says Goodbye To The Statue Of Liberty And Moves To Portland
Bloody hell, everyone in comics is moving to Portland right now. Publishers, creators and now charities.
This morning at the ComicsPRO Annual Meeting, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, legally supporting and defending freedom of speech in the comics medium, announced that they are moving offices from New York City to Portland, Oregon. Their new office will open on June 1st.
They can expect lower operating expenses, and they'll be on the doorstep of Dark Horse and Oni Press as well close to the West Coasters, Boom, IDW, Image, DC Comics and San Diego Comic Con.
They will leave Marvel Comics, Dynamite, Avatar and ComXology behind…
CBLDF President Larry Marder says, "The Fund thrives when we are near to our industry partners and can engage with a dedicated and diverse pool of volunteers, thriving talent scenes, and, above all else, a community that will benefit from and support our work. Portland abounds in all of those areas. We look forward to being of service to the city's community and to working with them to continue developing our ongoing program work in support of the freedom to read comics."
Donations and inquiries can still be directed to CBLDF, 255 W. 36th Street, Suite 501, New York, NY 10018 and www.cbldf.org. In the event of a First Amendment Emergency, call 1-800-99-CBLDF and email info@cbldf.org for assistance.
Will they have to change logos? Maybe replacing the Statue Of Liberty with a man sporting a monocle, wearing tweed and a kilt, with a typewriter mounted on a unicycle?
