The Devil Without, Out And About

A few weeks ago, you may have read about my crowd funding project for The Devil Without on Bleeding Cool. It's on! It's going to Edinburgh and I have secured a great venue (C Venues just off Edinburgh's Royal Mile) and some great collaborators including the son of Houdini's prop maker, a Danish Dubstep artist, a professor of sound and musical illusion and comic artists Glenn Fabry and Will Simpson. But I still need a funding push from the community!

The play itself is heavily rooted in comic lore and fantasy as well as taking from Christopher Marlowe's Faust. There are nods to Hellblazer and Gaiman's Books of Magic in addition to influence from tarot and sorcerers and alchemists such as Kelley, Ashmole and John Dee. It has evolved- as theatre is won't to do – over the last few weeks and the story is such that I think it'd make a great graphic novel. The protagonist dwells in a liminal world that borders two universes, ours and a Hell dimension. He has managed to evade his pursuers and to alter the nature of his reality to the point where he isn't going to die from natural causes nor ageing but living in this liminal space means that he must be subject to influence from the other side.

The play takes place over an hour, Faust using the audience as a psychic shield to obscure him from his adversaries however not all goes to plan and that which was without attempts to get within!

I am getting together crowd funding specifically for the technical equipment needed to create some of the sound and special effects required in the show. I have a live campaign now on Indiegogo.

A man who is no stranger to Constantine and who created the White Walkers is going to draw his take on 'The Devil Without', can't wait to see what he comes up with!
