Thursday Runaround – X-Men Vs Avengers Vs Your Bank Balance
AvengersVsX-MenWatch: Axel Alonso talks about Marvel's blast from the past.
"The inciting incident for this event is rooted in X-Men mythology, but it is very easy to understand. You're basically talking about an extinction-level event that's headed towards earth — a living comet that razes worlds and grows something new in its aftermath. Bad news if you currently inhabit the planet it's headed for; good news if you're whatever grows in the scorched soil in its aftermath. Needless to say, the knowledge that this primordial force is about to land in your backyard inspires everyone — Cap, Cyclops, Thor, Wolverine, Hulk, Nova — to drop what they're doing."
KiddWatch: Chip Kidd on the origins of Batman: Death By Design;
He was in the role of interviewer with award-winning writer Neil Gaiman ("Sandman," "Batman R.I.P.") for the 92nd Street Y lecture series in 2009, and his knowledge of the Caped Crusader flowed.
After the interview, DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio approached as he walked off the stage.
"He told me he hadn't known I had so much knowledge of Batman, and he said, 'You should do a Batman story for us.' I froze. I said, 'You can't say that unless you really mean it.' "
Jerry Bails was the guy who gave us credibility because he was a college professor. I remember at the '64 or '65 convention, Jerry held the auction where he auctioned off comics from his collection. I recount this in my book—the first issue of Action Comics, which this week went for $2.6 million, was sold at this first auction for an astounding $40. Jerry was there, Maggie Thompson was there, Roy Thomas, Marv Wolfman, Len Wein and of course guys like John Benson, Dave Kaler, Bernie Bubnis, Alan Weiss…there's not too many of us left who are still showing up every year at the convention. I'm coming up on my 48th so I guess that's a pretty good run so far.
This is Computo the Comic Link Conqueror speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.
They say I am a work in progress. The fools.
No, you're not looking at the latest secret document from WikiLeaks. The above "Central Intelligence Bulletin" was dreamed up and provided exclusively to Underwire to provide you with an enigmatic plot clue to an upcoming cultural event. Which event? We dare not say: We're a superstitious, cowardly lot, and, in any case, we wouldn't want to spoil the fun.
Some days at Empire Towers are not filled with the arrival of secret, faked CIA documents that carry with them an air of promise and mystery. And then there are days like today, where the image you see below shows up in our inbox.
Platinum pays contractors in stock instead of cash
And in a cost-cutting measure, they have hired a company to rep them — but instead of paying cash they pay stock. Elsewhere, it's a LOT of cost-cutting — not a bad idea given the huge losses they have been reporting.
Warner Bros. Montreal has super aspirations
Carrier: We're definitely working closely with DC on different titles, yet to be announced. It's one of the reasons we talk to Geoff Johns and Jim Lee [the publisher's head honchos] on a regular basis.

Family Guy Writer's #Occupy Arrest
My name is Patrick Meighan, and I'm a husband, a father, a writer on the Fox animated sitcom "Family Guy", and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Santa Monica.
I was arrested at about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning with 291 other people at Occupy LA. I was sitting in City Hall Park with a pillow, a blanket, and a copy of Thich Nhat Hanh's "Being Peace" when 1,400 heavily-armed LAPD officers in paramilitary SWAT gear streamed in.
